Projects That Move Communities

SMDI Consultants, Inc. was commissioned by Philkoei International, Inc. to undertake the passenger analysis and pedestrian simulation for 11 stations of the MRT-7, a 22-kilometer railway connecting North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. The project supports the development of one of Metro Manila's key transportation corridors, designed to improve regional connectivity, accommodate up to 850,000 daily passengers, and significantly reduce travel times while easing traffic congestion in the northern part of the metropolis.

Using PTV Viswalk, SMDI evaluated passenger movement, station ingress and egress, and pedestrian circulation under both normal operating conditions and emergency evacuation scenarios. The analysis assessed evacuation times from station platforms and identified potential operational bottlenecks at critical passenger facilities, including security screening areas, ticket vending machines, booking operating machines, and automatic fare collection gates. Simulation outputs enabled the assessment of queue lengths, pedestrian densities, and levels of service to support efficient station operations.

Building upon SMDI's previous 2020 assessment, the study incorporated updated station designs and expanded the scope from three to eleven stations. The findings provided data-driven recommendations to optimize station layouts, enhance passenger safety, improve operational efficiency, and ensure that the facilities are capable of accommodating projected passenger demand throughout the life of the MRT-7 system.
